Standart - Issue #36
The all-new Standart Issue 36 is here, full of people, stories, essays, and interviews all inspired by texture. Because really, that is the key to all worthwhile artistic expression; it is the muscle and sinew that sits atop the skeleton and gives it life, that makes it dance, and writhe, and sweat.
The texture of our new edition is comprised of many dots of information—people, stories, and cultural details from around the world of coffee—collected, curated, and combined to form an impression of coffee culture to be experienced by you in print.
This autumn, we’re taking you to an archipelago of over 7,000 islands with a coffee culture that’s flourishing on both the production and consumption fronts. You guessed it—the Philippines!
Traveling south, we explore the Vietnamese coffee scene with Thai Dang of 96b Cafe Roastery, and moving to it’s co-archipelagic neighbour, we talk Indonesian coffee production with Rani Mayasari Partadiredja, one of the country’s most exciting producers.
From the warmth of the coffee belt, we make a sharp turn to Iceland, where we investigate Reykjavík’s history of coffee and café culture.
Our long-form essays take a deep dive into naming a café, dissect the complexities of food allergies, and pit milk alternatives against dairy milk in a texture face-off.
